Mark Lanegan & Duke Garwood share new track "Scarlett"

23 July 2018, 15:52 | Written by Cerys Kenneally

Mark Lanegan and frequent collaborator Duke Garwood are back with another track "Scarlett', lifted from their forthcoming album With Animals.

"Scarlett" is the third track lifted from their forthcoming With Animals album, after the title-track and "Save Me".

Speaking about the new track, Lanegan explains, "Duke gave me a piece of music he called ‘Scarlett' and I was inspired to put down the words really quickly, to the haunting beauty and feeling of the music."

""Scarlett" is a fever dream soundscape born from a banquet of Scarlett Johansson movies," Lanegan adds.

It's been three years since the duo have teamed up on a collaborative project, as their album announcement follows on from 2013's Black Pudding.

Duke Garwood also appeared on Mark Lanegan Band's 11th album Gargoyle that arrived in 2017.

Split between London and LA, Garwood and Lanegan have conquered their trans-Atlantic collaboration.

Garwood explains more about their album, "Over the years, we’ve recorded together and apart. This time, I started this record alone, with many animals as company, It flowed, I set to work and out it came. Our music is instinct, there is not much talking about it, just creating. I think that if you are at peace with your work, and feeling it right, it flows, and can feel 'easy'. Music isn't meant to be hard. Though sometimes it can burn you to ashes. Making music for a singer, so they can inhabit it with a song means hitting the right soul buttons. There is no hit without a miss. It is a healing record, for us the makers, and for the listeners. It grows natural. We are gardeners of sonic feelings.”

With Animals drops on 24 August via Heavenly Recodings. Lanegan and Garwood embark on a UK and short EU tour in Autumn, including a date at London's Union Chapel on 5 October. Find out more.
