Marisa Abela reportedly being considered to play Amy Winehouse in Back To Black biopic
According to reports, Industry's Marisa Abela is a favourite to play Amy Winehouse in the Sam Taylor-Johnson-directed biopic Back To Black.
Earlier this month it was revealed that the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic, initially teased by the late singer's father Mitch Winehouse in 2020, has brought Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, Nowhere Boy, A Million Little Pieces) on board to direct.
Variety has today (28 July) reported that Marisa Abela (Industry) is a possible favourite to play the lead role. Although nothing is official yet, Abela is reportedly in discussions and a small group of other actors may also be in the mix.
Mitch Winehouse previously revealed in 2020 that he wanted to "get an unknown actress, ideally a Jewish girl from North or East London who looks a bit like Amy and talks like Amy."
The Amy Winehouse biopic is reportedly titled Back To Black, and Control and Nowhere Boy writer Matt Greenhalgh has written the script. Deadline reveals that Studiocanal is producing the biopic with Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Tracey Seaward.
Back To Black will be the first Amy Winehouse film to be backed by her family, following multiple unauthorised releases including 2015's Amy and 2018's Amy Winehouse: Back to Black.
