Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" is the fastest song in history to be certified diamond
Lil Nas X's huge "Old Town Road" hit is the fastest song in history to be certified diamond by the RIAA.
Yesterday (22 October), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed that "Old Town Road" has finally achieved diamond status.
NME reports that it's the first song of 2019 to receive diamond certification, while Billboard states it's the fastest song in history to reach diamond.
"Old Town Road" was originally released in December 2018, but went viral soon after when Billy Ray Cyrus contributed a guest verse. The single spent 19 weeks at the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and was knocked off by Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy" in August.
Lil Nas X celebrated the new certification on Twitter last night (22 October).
