Lil Nas X discusses his Saturday Night Live trousers split on Jimmy Fallon
Yesterday (24 May) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lil Nas X relived his Saturday Night Live wardrobe malfunction which saw him split his trousers.
Last Saturday (22 May), Lil Nas X made his Saturday Night Live debut, and managed to split his trousers while dancing on a pole during his performance of "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)".
He handled the situation like a pro, covering his crotch area while continuing with the song, and even joked about the wardrobe malfunction on Twitter after, reposting memes and writing, "at first i was afraid to even perform. then we rehearsed for 2 weeks, then all of the dancers got removed because one had covid and new ones had to learn the routine in 24 hours, and then i ended up ripping my pants and couldn’t finish. everything happens for a reason tho lol."

Yesterday (24 May) Lil Nas X appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and revisited the trouser-splitting moment while speaking to Fallon and co-host Dave Grohl. Speaking about the moment his trousers split, he said, "I was pretty much going down on the pole, doing my little sexy drop-down, and boom! I feel air! I was like, 'There’s definitely a breeze going on.' And I also felt some popping still happening while I was down there."
He continued, "You know what the worst part is? At the end of the performance, the dancers are supposed to touch me and tug on me and whatever, and they were tugging on the pants! I was like, ‘Please, God. No!’ And I couldn’t say it because we were in the performance."
Lil Nas X went on to reveal that he had to ask the SNL crew to bring a towel so he could leave the stage.
Fallon then showed a dress rehearsal clip of what the ending of the performance was supposed to look like, which saw Lil Nas X actually spinning on the pole, something he obviously wouldn't have been able to do with split trousers.
He also spoke about his upcoming debut album MONTERO, "Oh my God, my entire life has led up to this moment. This album, it’s honest, it’s 100% me - because last time I played so many different characters - I’m exploring my sexuality, myself, it’s like a come-of-age story… my heartbreaks (there’s been a lot of those in the last year), it’s everything, man, and it’s something everybody can vibe along to."
