Leif Vollebekk reveals affecting new ballad "Tallahassee"
Montreal multi-instrumentalist Leif Vollebekk has unveiled "Tallahassee", a moving new five-minute number stuffed with tender earworms.
The track was originally intended for recently released third record Twin Solitude, but ended up "elsewhere" - but now Vollebekk's finished it off, polished it up, and giving it its own time to shine. It's a soft ballad with emotional heft packed tight into every note; it doesn't adhere to any real genre rules, though flecks of classic pop and trembling Americana can be heard, with the sound and words seeming to just pour from Vollebekk.
"This is one of those songs that got away from me," Vollebekk explains. "All of the other songs on the album happened so fast. But not this one. I was sure 'Tallahassee' was going to hold the whole album together. But it wanted nothing to do with it. This one went elsewhere. It wanted to be under its own constellation. In fact, this song wandered so far away I didn't even know where it went. But now it's headed to you.”
