LCD Soundsystem cancel final three shows of Brooklyn residency due to COVID
LCD Soundsystem announced that their final three Brooklyn Steel residency shows have been called off due to a rise in COVID cases in New York.
Despite saying last Friday (17 December) that they would not be cancelling their final three shows at Brooklyn Steel, the band made a u-turn yesterday (19 December), and called off the final shows of their residency.
In a statement shared on Instagram, LCD Soundsystem wrote, "You all have spoken. The last three shows are cancelled. You good people who want to return your tickets and try again another time have spoken, but so has the new info, the hospital capacity, and those of us in the band, crew, and venue. We certainly had enough cancellations to make the vote count, but we also, now with all the new info, want to stop for our own sakes."
"We’re so sorry to anyone who wanted to come regardless," the statement continued. "To the people who made plans—travel or otherwise, or who fought to get these tickets. Of course, you’ll get your money back, and, as we said the other day, you will be first in line for tickets the next time we play NYC. But we’re still sorry, regardless. Sorry that we can’t play these last 3. Sorry that we won’t see your (partial) faces. Sorry that we don’t get to play together."
LCD Soundsystem added, "We tried. We really did. We were heartened to see so many more masks at the last show. We were incredibly thankful for everyone who wanted to make it work. But it will have to wait, again, until we find out what this new wave means to us all. Thank you for again listening, trying, etc. Please be safe."
