Kendrick Lamar unveils new track "The Blacker The Berry"
Kendrick Lamar has celebrated scooping the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song Grammys for "i" by releasing a new track called "The Blacker The Berry".
Boi-1da and Terrace Martin have produced the cut, which is a distinct departure from his pop leanings on "i"; with beats like left hooks and a faint synth melody in the background, he sets up a confrontational backdrop for his enraged flow.
With links to 1929 novel The Blacker The Berry: A Novel of Negro Life as well as 2Pac's track "Keep Ya Head Up", it's propelled by Lamar's galvanised mindset on race and culture. He moves back to his ...m.A.A.d city style, spitting his rhymes and lines with real purpose - those who were divided over "i" can unite over the power of the track.
It's the second single from Lamar's upcoming third LP, which is widely expected to drop at some point this year on Top Dawg/Interscope.
