
Kamasi Washington and Anoushka Shankar contribute to Marvin Gaye tribute cover at 2021 Grammys
Kamasi Washington and Anoushka Shankar were among the many Grammy-nominated artists that contributed to the Marvin Gaye cover of "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" at last night's Grammys.
The Marvin Gaye cover of "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)", debuted at last night's 2021 Grammys, and was recorded as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Marvin Gaye‘s album What’s Going On?.
All the contributing musicians on the Marvin Gaye cover were nominated for Grammys this year, including Kamasi Washington, Anoushka Shankar, Grace Potter, Gregory Porter, Kierra Sheard, Ledisi, Lupita Infante, Carter, Säje, Sarah Jarosz, Thana Alexa and many more.
Yesterday's (14 March) Grammy Awards saw Kaytranada pick up his first ever Grammys for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance Recording, while Beyoncé made history by becoming the most Grammy-winning female artist in history with 28 Awards. Taylor Swift also broke a record by being the first female artist ever to win Album Of The Year three times, following in the footsteps of Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.
