Holden's upcoming third record (also named The Animal Spirits), the first as James Holden and The Animal Spirits, has already been previewed via lead cut "Pass Through The Fire". It's a raw take recorded with percussionist Tom Page - the only song on the album not to be recorded during the main sessions.

"What you hear", says Holden of the song, "is us making it up as we go along, playing melodies I hadn't written yet as they occurred to me, finding where the song wanted to go. And although we tried rerecording it later with more players and better mics, there was something untouchable about the truth of that first time."

James Holden & The Animal Spirits are set to tour later this year as an "inherently organic live electronic musical performance", with a show at London's Islington Assembly Hall on 6 December confirmed. Tickets are on sale now.

The Animal Spirits is out 3 November via Holden's own Border Community imprint.
