J. Cole says he's "at peace" with the possibility of retiring from music
J. Cole has released his new documentary Applying Pressure, which sees him reveal that he's "at peace" with the possibility of not doing music anymore.
After delivering a first taster of The Off-Season album last week in the form of new song "i n t e r l u d e", J. Cole has released his new documentary Applying Pressure, which gives an insight into his mindset approaching the new album and his career in general.
The rapper has discussed retiring from music a few times over the past year, beginning with his The Audacity essay, which saw him write that he's got a "few more items to check off before I give myself permission to enter whatever the next chapter of my life may be." He also appeared to hint in December last year that The Fall Off may be his final musical project, as he shared a to-do list featuring the words 'features' and 'ROTD3' (which were already crossed out), as well as The Off-Season, It's A Boy and The Fall Off.
In his new documentary Applying Pressure that landed last night (10 May), J. Cole reveals that he is "at peace" with the possibility of leaving music behind, and also discussed some of his self-reflection about his career and doing more features.
Cole says in the film, "Do you really wanna look back and be like 'you didn't work with nobody? You didn't have no songs with nobody and you just cool with that?' No. Okay, so start saying yes to features."
He continues, "Similarly, it was like that with letting people know The Off-Season, It's A Boy, The Fall-Off is coming. It's like yo, now that the possibility of not doing this shit seems real and i'm at peace with that, don't have a regret."
