IDLES call BRITs nomination "a positive and beautiful thing"
IDLES have spoken out about being shortlisted for an award at this year's BRITs with frontman Joe Talbot thanking the band's supporters.
The band are up against Mabel, Ella Mai, Tom Walker and Jorja Smith for British Breakthrough Act at this year's ceremony - an award previously won by the likes of Dua Lipa, Belle and Sebastian, Arctic Monkeys and Bros. They were named earlier tonight by presenter Clara Amfo during ITV1's nominations show The BRITs are Coming!
"The inclusion of us in the BRITs is a positive and beautiful thing," Talbot told BEST FIT. "It's a sign that the people around us and the community they have built have now supported us to an extent where we all can't be ignored.
"What we have all built means something to a wider consensus than we ever comprehended.”
IDLES ended 2018 with their second album Joy as an Act of Resistance on pretty much every list around, including winning top place on BBC 6 Music's year-end countdown.
It's the first BRITs recognition for IDLES' label Partisan too - home to the the likes of Cigarettes After Sex, Body Type and Fontaines DC. The Brooklyn label also celebrated a Grammy nomination last year for Bombino’s Deran.
The BRIT Awards takes place on 20 February and a full list of nominees can be found at brits.co.uk.
