Icelandic hip hop and R&B takes centre stage for Best Fit showcase at Iceland Airwaves
We're presenting some of the best talents in the Icelandic hip hop scene at this year's Airwaves festival at a very special off-venue event.
The line-up showcases the myraid of ways that Iceland's hip hop scene is interpreting an entirely imported genre in its own unique way - from the political to the lyrical - and in the process creating the foundations for an exciting new movement in Icelandic music.
Reykjavíkurdætur spin-off crew Cyber join bleached glo-rap prince regent of Icelandic hip hop GKR (pictured above) on the showcase. There’s trap queen Alvia Islandia, smudged R&B genius Auður and the dark fucked-up brooding Lord Pusswhip. The amazing Úlfur Úlfur (who made one of our favourite videos ever) complete the line-up. The event runs on Thursday 3 November and stage times are:
14.30 AUÐUR
15.30 CYBER
16:30 Lord Pusswhip
17.30 Alvia Islandia
18.30 Úlfur Úlfur
19.30 GKR
Best Fit host another showcase with the Bedroom Community label the next day (Friday 4 November) and partner with Iceland Airwaves on the festival's Saturday evening for a mighty Kano-headling stage at Valshöllen.
