Hüsker Dü stream treasure trove of unreleased early material
Hüsker Dü have announced a new box set featuring heaps of unreleased material - which you can hear now.
The collection, titled Savage Young Dü, features a selection of previously unheard songs from their late-'70s/early-'80s roots remastered direct from board tapes, demos, and session masters. It includes four discs (three CDs) and 69 songs, 47 of which fall under the unreleased category, but also includes "Statues", "In A Free Land", an alt. cut of "Land Speed Record", and '83 12" Everything Falls Apart.
The set will also come with a 144-page book which includes an essay by Erin Osman. It's out via Numero Group in November.
"Hearing this stuff for the first time in a couple of decades, I [was] realizing the historical significance of what we were doing at the time," says bassist Greg Norton to NPR. "Of course, at the time, we were a bunch of kids playing rock 'n' roll in the basement. But the potential that Hüsker had showed right out of the gate."
Further reissues haven't been ruled out, but "it's too early to say".
