New Heavenly Recordings signing Halo Maud is French pop at its best
It all started with "Dans la Nuit", the first track of a mixtape released by French underground unearthers La Souterraine in 2015.
Since then, French multi-instrumentalist Halo Maud has been playing in the bands of various of her compatriots, and writing soft and less soft psychedelic pop songs, in her native tongue and in English.
Her obsession with time and vocals perched high above the earth marry themselves well with a strong visual style influenced by Pina Bausch and Maya Deren.
Announcing today her signing to Heavenly Recordings (Amber Arcades, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard), Halo Maud's introduction comes with a bang and a video for "Baptism", taken from her first EP Du Pouvoir.
Deezooit, the Parisian collective of directors, were tasked by Halo Maud to come up with “something like a ballet of mysterious, determined, somewhat magical women warriors living in communion with nature”. An ambitious pitch that they've fully brought to life.
