Gossip's Beth Ditto announces solo debut Fake Sugar, shares lead single "Fire"
Former Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto has detailed plans for a solo album titled Fake Sugar and shared lead single "Fire".
Ditto released five records with Gossip before they split last year (the final one came in 2012) - she says she wrote nearly 80 tracks for her solo LP, which has been in the works for over two years. Jennifer Decilveo (Ryn Weaver, Boyz II Men) is on production duties, with Jacknife Lee (REM, Bloc Party) contributing writing.
"She was the rollerblades to my roller skates. We'd argue all day long and I loved it," Ditto says of Decilveo.
Speaking about the LP with Pitchfork in 2016, Ditto revealed that Fake Sugar would be a "southern record but not necessarily a country record".
"I was running away from the bad parts of Southern culture," says Arkansas-raised Ditto of her move to Washington state at age 18. "I'm old enough now and so grateful for my family that I can finally embrace the good in where I grew up."
Ditto will play three European shows this month to showcase her solo material - she'll play Berlin's Lido on 5 April, Flow in Paris on 10 April, and London's Omeara on 11 April.
Ditto is one of many big names to have donated items to Rumble In The Jumble 2017, a charity sale raising money for good causes taking place next month. Find out more.
