Glastonbury allowed to expand capacity if new attendees travel via public transport
Glastonbury festival has been given the go-ahead to expand its crowd, but only if the new attendees travel by public transport.
According to Bristol Post, the Mendip District Council has given Glastonbury the green light to increase their crowd capacity by 7,000.
The MDC Licensing Board has only allowed the expansion on one condition, that all 7,000 new festival-goers travel via public transport.
Glastonbury won't be expanding for 2019, but is looking to bring its total attendees up to 210,000 to avoid an increase in ticket prices. The festival's current license expires in 2024.
A spokesperson for MDC explained, "We have been advised there will be no increase in 2019, but acknowledge the licence does allow an increase."
Last month festival co-organiser Emily Eavis revealed some new developments to the festival site. Arcadia are relocating with a completely new design, while Block9 will be expanding and adding a new installation. The Park will also have a new addition.
