Ghostpoet announces new record Shedding Skin, streams "Off Peak Dreams" single
Ghostpoet has announced the release of his third LP Shedding Skin, and is streaming "Off Peak Dreams", the lead single, for us all to hear.
The idea for Shedding Skin is that each of the album's ten cuts will "embrace, unite and narrate observations that are designed to sit beside each other through bright peaks and dark shallows."
It has been recorded with a live set-up (his touring band), which is a drastic change for the alt. hip-hop artist, who tended to record in a more solitary fashion on previous albums. Guests confirmed to appear on the record include Nadine Shah, Etta Bond, Melanie De Biasio, Lucy Rose and Maxïmo Park’s Paul Smith.
"Off Peak Dreams" features trip-hop hallmarks, most notably in the rhythms and percussion, with Ghostpoet waxing lyrical about the pitfalls and subsequent upswings of life. Squelchy synths bustle between shimmering interjections, and though it's clearly still a Ghostpoet sound, there's a sense of richness, expansiveness and optimism that's fresh.
Shedding Skin is due out 2 March via Play It Again Sam. The last record that Ghostpoet released was 2013's Some Say I So I Say Light.
