French music night Oui Love returns for its third London night with Dead Sea, Marietta and Aquaserge
Champions of French music Oui Love partnered with Best Fit and Rockfeedback again last night for its third live showcase at Birthdays in London.
The night aims to exhibit French talent to a UK base, and has so far debuted the likes of Fishbach, KillASon and SÔNGE to London audiences. Opening last night’s event was the dreamy Parisian quartet Dead Sea. Their shoegaze-leaning material sits somewhere between Cocteau Twins and Sade, and with new songs looming, are certainly ones to watch.
Following Dead Sea was the melancholic, psych-pop of Born Bad Records-signed Marietta, the solo project of Guillaume Marietta from The Feeling of Love. Easing his crowds in, Marietta began with his English material before switching to his mother tongue with “Nos ventres nus” and “La grande ville malade”, from his latest album La Passagère.
Closing the evening was Aquaserge, who opened with moody “Les yeux fermés” in front of an appreciative fan base. The Toulouse formation then embarked on other songs from album Laisse ça être, which proves to be as engaging live as on record.
