Drew Citron previews debut solo album with title-track "Free Now"

Drew Citron (Public Practice, Beverly) has unveiled the title-track from her upcoming debut solo album Free Now.

"Free Now" is the third track to be shared from Citron's solo album, landing after "Kiss Me" and "Summertime".

She says of her new single, ""Free Now" is a song written in the spirit of the popular standard 'I get along without you very well'. It’s slightly tongue-in-cheek, and captures how moving on from a big relationship can be liberating while also harrowing. We made the video upstate in the wilderness, focusing on the simple beauty and the bittersweet feel of the song."

Citron recorded the album with various talented musicians at different studios, including Sam Evian at Flying Cloud, Ash's Tim Wheeler at Atomic Heart, John Agnello (engineer: Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile) at Water Music, and Danny Taylor at Transmitter Park Studio.

She says of her forthcoming solo album, "Growing up in San Francisco, I used to take so many long melancholic walks listening to The Smiths on my Discman. And those walks now strike me as a kind of prelude to the feeling I’m getting at with this album. Most of the songs were written in Northern California, camped out on the coast recalling much of how it felt to be an adolescent of sixteen, in love with a record."

Citron adds, "I am finally unafraid to get up on stage and be the front-person, to write all my own material, to get behind a mixing board and turn the knobs and produce my own songs. And it took time to get here. It takes time."

"Free Now" is out now. Drew Citron's debut solo album Free Now will arrive Friday (9 October) via Park the Van, and is available to pre-order now.
