Dolly Parton says she'll accept Rock Hall induction despite turning down nomination
Dolly Parton has revealed that she would accept a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction after initially saying she felt that her 2022 nomination was "more for the people in rock music."
Last month Parton turned down her 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, and wrote in a statement that she doesn't "feel that I have earned that right." Parton also thanked the Rock Hall for considering her, and added that the nomination has "inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock’n’roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do!"
The same month she discussed the nomination, saying that she felt "like that's more for the people in rock music," but in a new interview with NPR, Parton discussed what she would do if she was chosen to be inducted.
"Well, I'll accept gracefully," Parton said. "I would just say thanks and I'll accept it because the fans vote. But when I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music, and I have found out lately that it's not necessarily that. But if they can't go there to be recognised, where do they go? So I just felt like I would be taking away from someone that maybe deserved it, certainly more than me, because I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there's more to it than that."
