Debbie Harry may quit Blondie after current tour
A new album and a tour of the States later this year may prove to be Blondie‘s swansong, as drummer Clem Burke has hinted that Debbie Harry is on the verge of retiring from the band.
Quoted in the Mail on Sunday, Burke is said to have suggested that with Harry’s departure, the band would be likely to follow suit: “Nothing is finalised yet, but obviously there’s no Blondie without Debbie Harry.”
The drummer was attending a Royal College of Art exhibition of work by Blockheads singer Ian Dury. ”Debbie is eleven years older than the rest of us, so it’s on her mind,” he continued.
Blondie have a series of shows planned for September and October, and a tenth studio LP, Ghosts of Download, is due to coincide. The sparkling electro-funky first single from the album, featuring Gossip‘s Beth Ditto, is ‘A Rose By Any Name’.
