Members of Grizzly Bear, The National, and more cover the Grateful Dead's "Terrapin Station"
Members of Grizzly Bear, The National, Sō Percussion, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus have covered the Grateful Dead's "Terrapin Station".
The original track features on the album of the same name, and now Bryce Dessner, Aaron Dessner, Daniel Rossen, Christopher Bear, Josh Kaufman, Conrad Doucette, Sō Percussion, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus have tackled it for the upcoming Day Of The Dead compilation/tribute. It's retitled "Terrapin Station (Suite)", and stretches to almost 17 minutes.
The Day Of The Dead collection is curated by The National's Dessner bros., and co-produced with Kaufman. It's out 20 May on 4AD, and profits are being donated to Red Hot, an HIV/AIDs charity.
The record is described as "a wide-ranging tribute to the songwriting and experimentalism of the Dead", and took four years to record. The six-hour-long project features over 60 artists and 59 tracks.
Major names on the collection include The Flaming Lips, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The War On Drugs, Courtney Barnett, The Tallest Man On Earth, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks, Shura, This Is The Kit, Kurt Vile, Perfume Genius, Sharon Van Etten, Wilco, ANOHNI, Angel Olsen, Local Natives, Real Estate, Tim Hecker, The Walkmen, and Bill Callahan.
