David Lynch says he's a fan of Kanye West
Perhaps introduced by mutual friend Rick Rubin, director-come-budding-musician David Lynch has spoken of his admiration for Kanye West’s music in a recent talk at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Lynch was speaking for 90 minutes at the venue on Tuesday evening (29 April), slipping in a head-nod to Yeezus. “I love ‘Blood on the Leaves,’” he said of West’s recent album track. “I just think it’s one of the most modern pieces and so minimal, so powerful but at the same time so beautiful. It’s a great, great song.”
He went on to discuss his love of factories (“I love smoke. I love fire. I love metal. I love glass. I love plaster. I love bricks. And I love nature going to work on those things”), American diners (“There’s a beautiful thing about a diner. Your mind can go into dark places, but you can always return to the warmth and comfort of a well-lit diner. It’s a nice place to think,”) and his dislike of the New York subway (“Smelling in the subway fills me with that fear. The feeling in the air… many things could go wrong at any minute”).
David Lynch released his latest album The Big Dream last year.
