David Bowie's first "Starman" demo sells at auction for £41,000
What is believed to be the first demo of David Bowie's "Starman" sold at auction for £41,000.
Earlier this week the demo, found in Kevin Hutchinson loft, was expected to sell at auction for £10,000.
The demo, featuring "Starman", "Moonage Daydream", and "Hang Onto Yourself", managed to fetch four times that, going for £41,000 according to ITV.
Hutchinson received the demo in 1971 through Bowie's guitarist Mick Ronson, who passed the demo over to Hutchinson so he could learn the track.
In the demo version of the track, Ronson tries to end the recording before Bowie is finished. Hutchinson says, "You can tell that Mick has never heard the song before because at the end he is just about to turn the tape recorder off and Bowie says, "Hang on. There's a little bit more"."
