Daniel Johnston announces "final" tour with Jeff Tweedy, Built To Spill, The Districts, and more
Outsider icon Daniel Johnston has announced a "final" series of tour dates with some of the big names that he's inspired over the years.
The influential musician and visual artist is far from a frequent performer, but it seems he's ready to call it a day on his live performances. The final string of shows - all North American - will see Johnston accompanied by a range of big name fans, with his backing band comprising stars such as Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Built To Spill, and The Districts. As well as backing Johnston, each cast of guests will craft the setlists.
Johnston will play New Orleans on 28 September with the Preservation All-Stars, Philadelphia on 4 October with The Districts and Modern Baseball, and Chicago with Jeff Tweedy "and friends" on 20 October. He'll play Portland and Vancouver on 10 and 11 November respectively with Built To Spill (plus others TBA).
More dates are expected to be confirmed soon. Each night will also feature a showing of 2005 doc The Devil And Daniel Johnston.
As well as his final tour, Johnston has a couple of festival dates in Europe confirmed - including one at Green Man Festival next month.
