Daft Punk have been unmasked in new wooden sculptures
Daft Punk have been immortalised as wooden sculptures for a new gallery exhibit - without their trademark helmets.
Xavier Veilhan has carved the electro pair from plywood, and according to the artist himself, they requested to be portrayed sans helmets:
“The funny thing is I didn’t even ask them... it was a very logical response to my proposal: I proposed to introduce them as producers, not as musicians, and so after talking to them, we decided that they should appear with their civilian names. […] They proposed to me: ‘Okay, we should make the sculpture the non-existing image of us. So if somebody wants to see how we are like in real [life] they’ll have to look at the sculpture.”
If you fancy a trip to see Daft Punk unmasked, head to New York’s Galerie Perrotin.
Other famous faces in the series include Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Rick Rubin, Giorgio Moroder, Nigel Godrich and Pharrell Williams.
