Conor Oberst reportedly dropped by label due to rape allegations
In the build-up to his recent solo album, Conor Oberst was embroiled in controversy when he was accused of rape. Now, the Bright Eyes singer has reportedly been dropped by his label due to the allegations.
Celebrity site TMZ are reporting that Nonesuch Records tore up a $200k contract with Oberst before the release of Upside Down Mountain and after the news broke. “Oberst says the false accusation tanked his record sales and led to his label 86’ing him,” they say.
Oberst is now seeking $1.2 million for defamation and damages. Court documents report that the accuser has not been in attendance for any court hearings.
UPDATE: Pitchfork report that a representative of Oberst claims that he has in fact NOT been dropped by Nonesuch.
