CHIKA confirms she's "not retiring" and thanks Cardi B for "reaching out"
Grammy nominee CHIKA has returned to social media, confirming she's "not retiring", while also thanking Cardi B for "reaching out and showing such kindness".
Earlier this month CHIKA - who was nominated for Best New Artist at this year's Grammys - revealed she was planning to retire, writing that "the mental toll being in the industry has taken on me is not something you bounce back from easily."
CHIKA's statement also highlighted the backlash she received from contemplating her retirement, and led her to call out those commenting negatively, "It's not fucking cool, it's not "trolling" or "stan culture", you're pushing people to a point of no return."
Last night (18 April) the rapper returned to Twitter, confirming that she is "alive" and "okay", and thanking those who reached out during her "very intense week". She continued, "I’m not retiring. After what I’ve endured in the past few days, I’m not ever allowing anything to stop me or almost take me from this ghetto ass earth."
In a second tweet, CHIKA thanked Cardi B for contacting her, "Thank you, Cardi B, for reaching out & showing such kindness to me in a time I don’t even think you knew was as serious as it was. You’ve always shown love to me & don’t think I could take that for granted. You’re appreciated."

You’re appreciated.
The rapper confirmed that she will be stepping back from social media "for the time being", and went on to share a statement to "clarify some things". She thanked the anonymous person who called the paramedics that "broke my door down to save my life", adding that she was "not okay".
Later in the statement, CHIKA highlighted that social media "did not cause what happened, however it definitely was the straw that broke the camel's back".
