Charli XCX says her new music "feels like Charli ultra popstar"
Charli XCX has discussed her forthcoming music, saying it "feels like Charli ultra popstar, all-out, sell your soul, kind of version of myself."
After giving fans a sneak peek of her upcoming single "Good Ones" via TikTok, Charli XCX has spoken to The Evening Standard about the direction of her new material, and has explained that she feels like she's "unlocked this kind of ultimate top-tier level of myself".
"New music is coming, it’s very good, it is very pop," said Charli XCX. "It feels like Charli ultra popstar, all-out, sell your soul, kind of version of myself. I feel like I have unlocked this kind of ultimate top-tier level of myself and it is fun to get to know her a bit as well."
On why she's chosen to go "all-out" pop, Charli XCX explained, "Firstly, because the previous lockdown album was very much the opposite, it was very DIY. I made it with my fans very quickly. I kind of wanted to go in the opposite direction. Secondly, it is my last album on a major label in my record deal. So, I thought: ‘Why not?'"
She will also appear on Jax Jones and Joel Corry's new "OUT OUT" single arriving on Friday (13 August), which will also feature Saweetie. Ahead of the release of "OUT OUT", Charli XCX also launched her own BBC podcast today (9 August) titled Best Song Ever. The podcast will include special guests such as Christine and the Queens, Caroline Polachek, Mark Ronson, Tove Lo, Beabadoobee, Addison Rae and more.
