Cardi B discusses healthcare, racism and more in new video call with Joe Biden
A new video call interview with Cardi B and Joe Biden has been released today (17 August), which sees them discuss healthcare, racism, tuition fees and more.
Back in January, Cardi B met up with Bernie Sanders to talk about politics. The chat saw them bond over a mutual respect for Franklin D. Roosevelt, and they reunited in April (after Sanders pulled the plug on his 2020 presidency campaign) on Instagram Live to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment, Joe Biden, Trump and more.
Following the positive reaction of her chats with Sanders, ELLE decided to get Cardi B and Joe Biden together over Zoom for a chat, and Cardi B shares her list of things that she wants the next president to do for the US.
Cardi B lists getting Trump out as her top priority, adding "His mouth gets us in trouble so much. I don’t want to be lied to - we’re dealing with a pandemic right now, and I just want answers." After listing some questions about the pandemic that she wants answering, Cardi B also says she wants free healthcare and education, adding, "And I want Black people to stop getting killed and no justice for it. I’m tired of it. I’m sick of it. I just want laws that are fair to Black citizens and that are fair for cops, too. If you kill somebody who doesn’t have a weapon on them, you go to jail."
Biden responds, "There’s no reason why we can’t have all of that. Presidents have to take responsibility. I understand one of your favorite presidents is Franklin Roosevelt. Roosevelt said the American people can take anything if you tell them the truth. Sometimes the truth is hard. But right now, we’re in a position where we have an opportunity to make so much progress. The American public has had the blinders taken off."
Despite the seriousness of the conversation, there are some lighter moments where Cardi B's personality shines through. The rapper calls the presidential candidate "Biden" from the start of the conversation, and despite Biden saying to Cardi B, "The name’s Joe", the rapper still goes on to refer to him as Biden.
