Bright Eyes and Phoebe Bridgers cover Elliott Smith's "St. Ides Heaven"
Bright Eyes have released a cover of Elliott Smith's "St. Ides Heaven" with Phoebe Bridgers, which is lifted from their Letting Off The Happiness: A Companion EP.
After announcing reissues of their A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997, Letting Off The Happiness and Fevers and Mirrors albums last month with news of their Companion series, Bright Eyes have unveiled a cover of Elliott Smith's "St. Ides Heaven", which originally featured on the late artist's 1995 self-titled second album.
Bright Eyes' cover is lifted from their Letting Off The Happiness: A Companion EP, and features additional vocals from frequent collaborator Phoebe Bridgers.
Each of the Bright Eyes reissues will be teamed with a six-track companion EP that will feature five reworked songs from the original albums, as well as a cover of an artist they "found particularly inspiring at the time of the original recording."
Conor Oberst said of the reissue campaign, "It’s a meaningful way to connect with the past that doesn’t feel totally nostalgic and self-indulgent. We are taking these songs and making them interesting to us all over again. I like that. I like a challenge. I like to be forced to do something that’s slightly hard, just to see if we can."
