Beyoncé's company is being sued for not making her website accessible to visually impaired users
Beyoncé's company Parkwood Entertainment has received a class action lawsuit after violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.
A blind woman has complained about the lack of accessibility on Beyoncé's website, resulting in a class action lawsuit.
Billboard reports the blind woman is called Mary Conner, and the filing describes Conner as having "no vision whatsoever".
In Conner's complaint, Dan Shaked, her attorney, writes, “Plaintiff dreams of attending a Beyoncé concert and listening to her music in a live setting. However, when she browsed the Beyonce.com website, she encountered numerous barriers which limited her accessibility to the goods and services offered on the website.”
Conner claims she can't browse or make any purchases without the aid of a companion, and reiterates the lack of drop-down menus and lack of keyboard use throughout the site.
The proposed class includes "all legally blind individuals in the United States who have attempted to access Beyonce.com and as a result have been denied access to the enjoyment of goods and services offered by Beyonce.com, during the relevant statutory period.”
Conner hopes the lawsuit will result in Parkwood Entertainment making their site friendly for the visually impaired, as well as gaining compensation for members who have been "subjected to unlawful discrimination".
