Bandcamp reveal artists earned $7.1 million on second day of waiving revenue shares
Last Friday (1 May), Bandcamp ditched their revenue shares for a second time, and yesterday (4 May), they revealed that artists earned a staggering $7.1 million in just 24 hours.
To support artists amid the current coronavirus pandemic, Bandcamp gave up its revenue shares for 24 hours last Friday (1 May), meaning artists received full payments for merch and music sold via Bandcamp to hopefully provide some money to artists that they've lost following festival/tour cancellations due to the pandemic.
Bandcamp first waived its revenue shares on 20 March, and in 24 hours the site sold more than $4.1 million. Last Friday (1 May), the site sold $2.8 million more in music and merch than their first day, bringing the 24 hour total to a huge sum of $7.1 million.
Update on last Friday's campaign: Fans paid artists $7.1 million in just 24 hours ($2.8m more than March 20th). Thank you for supporting artists impacted by Covid-19, and mark your calendars for the next #BandcampFriday on June 5th! https://t.co/hPhgm7WBR4

It's not quite over yet, as last month Bandcamp revealed that they would also waive its revenue shares for two more days over the next couple of months.
