Avicii's family announce posthumous album

Avicii's family have announced the release of a posthumous album landing this summer.

The Swedish DJ was found dead in his hotel room in Oman last year aged 28.

Avicii's family have announced his new album TIM, and revealed to The New York Times that the first single "S.O.S.", will arrive on 10 April.

News of the posthumous record arrives shortly after Avicii's family launched the Tim Bergling foundation, which will initially focus on mental health and suicide prevention, but plans to extend with initiatives towards climate change, endangered species protection, and nature conservation.

The tracks from TIM are ones that Avicii was working on in the last three months of his life, and was put together with the help of producer Carl Falk, who says, "This was a different Tim. A Tim that wanted to say something."

Other contributors include his close collaborators Albin Nedler, Kristoffer Fogelmark, Salem Al Fakir, and Vincent Pontare. The album may even feature the Chris Martin collaboration "Heaven", and will journey through "psychedelia, Arabian music, sounds of the Caribbean and more," according to The NYT.

Offering a statement on the new album, the family wrote, "When Tim Bergling passed away on April 20, 2018, he was close to completing a new album. He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music. The songwriters that Tim was collaborating with on this album have continued the process to get as close to his vision as possible."

"S.O.S." will be released next week on 10 April. The album, TIM, will arrive on 6 June. Find out more.
