Jeff Tweedy covers Alvvays' "Pharmacist"
Jeff Tweedy has shared a cover of Alvvays' "Pharmacist" through his Starship Casual Substack.
Over the weekend Jeff Tweedy updated his Starship Casual Substack with a cover of "Pharmacist", the lead single from Alvvays' Blue Rev album.
He wrote of the cover, "I learned this short and sweet beauty a little while ago, when it was released as a preview track for Alvvays’s new LP, Blue Rev. I love the unexpected C demolished chord in the chorus. If I understand these lyrics correctly, I think that chord (Cdim actually) makes the phrase "I hear it happens all the time" even more withering and full of delicious, pitying scorn. A diminished chord employed to diminish. Love it!"
Previously, Tweedy has also shared a solo acoustic and demo versions of Wilco songs, a demo adaptation of William Blake's How Sweet I Roam'd from Field to Field poem, and covers of songs by Grateful Dead, Townes Van Zandt, Japanese Breakfast, Mavis Staples, Angel Olsen, Joni Mitchell, Big Thief and more.
Back in July Jeff Tweedy joined Japanese Breakfast at Pitchfork Music Festival to perform "Kokomo, IN" and Wilco's "Jesus Etc."
