Helena Deland and claire rousay join forces on "Deceiver"
"Deceiver" is part of Mexican Summer's Looking Glass series.
Independent record label Mexican Summer present Looking Glass, which looks inward to artists close to the label’s core, and outward to familiar names not far from the family tree, to demonstrate diversity and collaboration.
Deland and rousay share the following about the song: “"Deceiver" takes place in the span of an evening during which the shadows of a female friendship are brought to light. Drawing from the clear setting detailed in the lyrics, field recordings taken at a park during the late hours of the evening weave in and out of prominence throughout the song. It's a plea for kindness in spite of there being no resolution or certainty.”
With previous singles from Destroyer, Angel Bat Dawid, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and many more, Looking Glass serves as a portal for creative exploration and community.
Helena Deland released her first album, Someone New, in 2020 on Luminelle Records. It was followed by the release of Hildegard, a collaborative album with fellow Montreal musician Ouri. Whilst, last year, claire rousay released Sunset Poem – a series of reworks of Circuit des Yeux's album -io.
The pair also collaborated on Moonlight Through the Deep Trees – a playlist of songs that inspired “Deceiver”.
