Hak Baker announces debut album World FM with new single "Windrush Baby"
Last month saw the release of "Telephones 4 Eyes" – his first release of 2023 – and now Hak Baker returns with new single "Windrush Baby", plus the announcement of his debut album World FM.
"Windrush Baby" tells the story of Hak Baker's Jamaican mother moving to the UK at the young age of 17, and how the children of Windrush have carved out their identity in a country that didn’t feel like their parents.
"Windrush affected people in a multitude of ways. Broken families, broken trust and broken bonds, bonds that were falsely sold to us by the ‘Empire’. I, on the other hand, living through the generational consequences of these mishaps, have managed to manifest joy from these times," he says. "The hardened shell passed down by my mother, enabled me to live my life fearlessly, seeking fun and learning harsh life lessons at every instance. To be a child of such treachery can only be an advantage and a superpower. The Windrush Baby can never be broken. We are the offspring of the resilient."
Recorded with longtime collaborator Karma Kid over two days at Abbey Road Studios, fans can now also watch the creation of ”Windrush Baby” as part of the legendary Abbey Road ‘Lock-In’ series.
World FM has been a work-in-progress for the past two years, and is a collection of songs that have been compiled from sessions with Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey and Misfits producer Ali Bla Bla.
Hak Baker will support Pete Doherty at Royal Albert Hall on 5 May.
World FM is out on 9 June via Hak Attack Records, AWAL and is available to pre-order now. Hak Baker will embark on an EU and UK tour with headline date at London's KOKO on 29 September.
