Squid cover Talk Talk and celebrate Ollie and Anton's birthday at their Best Fit secret session

Squid kicked off the final day of End of the Road Festival by taking part in The Line of Best Fit's secret sessions – with a birthday celebration and a cover of Talk Talk's "Life's What You Make It".

Ahead of their evening set at the Woods stage, this was the Brighton band's third year playing at the Dorset-based festival, and their second year playing a Best Fit secret session after collaborating with William Doyle and Anna B Savage back in 2021.

Taking to the piano stage at midday today, the five-piece played a two-song which closed with a cover of Talk Talk’s “Life’s What You Make It” taken from the beloved English band's 1986 album The Colour of Spring. “I’ve just had a baby, sorry, we didn’t have much time to prep,” vocalist and drummer Ollie Judge shared.

Squid’s appearance was also a time for celebration with Judge turning 31 – while guitarist Anton Pearson celebrated his birthday a few days earlier. The audience sang Happy Birthday to the pair, who were given a classic Colin The Caterpillar cake with birthday candles. You can watch a clip of the song and birthday surprise below.

End of the Road Festival concludes today with headline sets from Father John Misty; Black Country, New Road; John Maus; and Fabiano Palladino.

Earlybird tickets for End of the Road Festival’s 20th anniversary edition in 2026 will be on sale from Tuesday 2 September via endoftheroadfestival.com
