David Byrne and Hayley Williams collide on new track, "What Is The Reason For It?"
David Byrne has shared "What Is The Reason For It?", featuring Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams, as the final offering from his forthcoming new album, Who Is The Sky?.
Speaking to People about the collaboration with Hayley Williams, Byrne said, "When we were finishing up the record, the producer Kid Harpoon and I were wondering, 'Oh, maybe this song, it's a love song, or at least it's asking what is love, what it's about? Why do we do this? Why do other people do it? Do we know anything about it? (...) And I knew that she was in town, so I just texted her and said, 'Do you want to come by and sing on this?' And she said yes. And she killed it."
Born from a creative collaboration between David Byrne and artist Dustin Yellin, the video for "What Is The Reason For It?" uses cutting-edge AI technology to animate more than 20 of Byrne's original line drawings. The project highlights Yellin’s interest in exploring new technologies to bring still images to life.
Talking Heads' David Byrne and Paramore's Hayley Williams have also collaborated on new original music to soundtrack The Twits – Netflix's forthcoming animated featured inspired by Roald Dahl's children's novel. No strangers to collaboration, on Record Store Day 2024, the pair released an exclusive 12" featuring Paramore's cover of "Burning Down The House" by Talking Heads, which came out on A24's Talking Heads tribute album, Everyone’s Getting Involved, alongside David Byrne's cover of "Hard Times", which was the lead single of Paramore's fifth studio album, After Laughter.
Who Is the Sky? will be released on 5 September by Matador Records, and is available to pre-order now.
