David Byrne and Hayley Williams to collaborate on score for Netflix adaptation of The Twits

Talking Heads' David Byrne and Paramore's Hayley Williams have collaborated on new original music to soundtrack The Twits – Netflix's forthcoming animated featured inspired by Roald Dahl's children's novel.

As reported by Variety, "Open The Door" is a forthcoming duet by David Byrne and Hayley Williams, which is set to feature in the end credits of the animated feature. Byrne has also written and produced three solo songs for The Twits.

No strangers to collaboration, on Record Store Day 2024, the pair released an exclusive 12" featuring Paramore's cover of "Burning Down The House" by Talking Heads, which came out on A24's Talking Heads tribute album, Everyone’s Getting Involved, alongside David Byrne's cover of "Hard Times", which was the lead single of Paramore's fifth studio album, After Laughter. Williams is also set to feature on Byrne's first album in seven years, Who Is the Sky?.

Speaking of the project, Hayley Williams says: "Being a part of this movie is like one pinch-me moment after another. My favorite Roald Dahl book growing up was The Twits. I’m drawn to learning about twisted characters like Mr. and Mrs. Twit and the Wormwoods from Matilda. The way Phil [Johnston] and Daisy [May West] adapted the original story was really exciting to me, as was the animation style. It feels like a cautionary tale — and also a really lovely depiction of chosen family and community, which is one of my favorite topics. I owe David Byrne for pulling me into the music for this. It was so fun and so surreal starting a song from scratch with him."

Emilia Clarke, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Natalie Portman are set to star in the forthcoming adaptation of The Twits.

The Twits will be available on Netflix from 17 October. David Byrne's forthcoming album, Who Is the Sky?, will be released on 5 September by Matador Records, and is available to pre-order now.
