Craig David and Beverley Knight to headline Windrush '75 Concert at Royal Albert Hall
Craig David and Beverley Knight will be headlining an upcoming concert at the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush.
The Windrush generation came to the UK from Caribbean countries between 1948 and 1971 via the ship MV Empire Windrush, which brought workers from the Caribbean to help address a post-war labor shortage in the UK. The concert will aim to capture the breadth of musical influence which the Windrush generation has had on British culture over the last 75 years.
The event is being curated and hosted by DJ and radio presenter Trevor Nelson. Other artists participating include R&B group Loose Ends, saxophonist YolanDa Brown, calypsonian Tobago Crusoe, ‘G-folk’ pioneer Hak Baker and award-winning author and poet Salena Godden. Accompanied by the Chineke! Orchestra conducted by Chris Cameron.
The concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on 18 June, as part of the BBC’s programming to mark the Windrush anniversary.
