Dirty Projectors' Maia Friedman, Lucius' Dan Molad and Pavo Pavo's Oliver Hill have released their latest Coco track "Omen", which arrives ahead of their North American tour supporting Kevin Morby later this month.
"Omen" is the second new Coco single this year, following August's "Rough Water", and lands ahead of their tour supporting Kevin Morby which kicks off in Washington DC on 22 October.
"Wildfire season colours the sky every year with a warning: the Once-ler is up to his usual tricks and we haven't a Lorax to speak for the trees," Coco say. ""Omen" is about this annual glimpse into the future - "Heavy hangs the sunshine / Yellow, thick, and unkind." There's a double meaning, though, riffing on omens in our personal lives - moments when the writing is on the wall. "Feel a pattern in me / Look away and stand over there / Still I see it everywhere, an omen"."
Coco add, "Musically, we wanted the track to feel on one hand grounded in nature and reality (the guitar, campfire slow dance) and on the other hand alien and futuristic (the arpeggiating bloops and filtering drums). We hope you enjoy the melody!"
Their self-titled debut album was released in October last year.
