Christopher Owens details first album in almost a decade, I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair
Christopher Owens – former frontman of indie rock band Girls – has announced, I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair, his first new album in seven years.
The announcement is accompanied by the new single “No Good,” the opening track and live acoustic performance video directed by filmmaker Rebekah Sherman-Myntti.
Christopher Owens is no stranger to loss and hardship – in the years since his last release, he has faced a motorcycle accident that left him immobilised, battles with homelessness, and the passing of former Girls bandmate Chet “JR” White, right as the duo prepared to reunite in the studio. I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair is an album that captures both the lows of life and the celebration of its highs, one that Owens refers to as “a record about a journey back to the centre of myself”
Owens says of the themes and experiences that led to the creation of the album, “In the second half of the Bible, Jesus asks ‘What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?’ Lately I've found it interesting to ask it in a different way. ‘What shall it profit a man, if he lose his whole world, and gain back his soul?’ And I think the answer would have to be something like — The Kingdom of Heaven.”
