Ariana Grande covers Billie Eilish during Saturday Night Live skit
Over the weekend, Ariana Grande appeared as a host on Saturday Night Live and performed a cover of Billie Eilish' "What Was I Made For?" in one of her skits.
Ariana Grande took to SNL just after the release of her seventh studio album, eternal sunshine, which follows Positions, the album she released in 2020.
During her first appearance on the show since 2016, she performed eternal sunshine tracks “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” and “imperfect for you", as well as singing Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” during the Sandwich King sketch which saw a sandwich maker contemplate his existence as his regular office customers decided they would order takeaway for the day.
On Friday evening, Grande took to her Instagram Stories to ask fans not to send hateful messages to those they speculate songs on her album are about. “i just wanted to say anyone that is sending hateful messages to the people in my life based on your interpretation of this album is not supporting me and is absolutely doing the polar opposite of what i would ever encourage (and is also entirely misinterpreting the intention behind the music)," she wrote.
"i ask that you please do not. it is not how to support me. it is the opposite," she continued. "although this album captures a lot of painful moments, it also is woven together with a through line of deep, sincere love."
eternal sunshine is out now.
