
anaiis begins a new chapter with "Deus Deus"
French-Senegalese artist anaiis has entered a new era with the release of new single, "Deus Deus".
“It’s a mantra,” anaiis explains, “an incantation of spirit and love after a period of darkness and difficulty. I wrote it in hopes to uplift people who have felt like giving up. It is an invitation to count our blessings even when things feel relentless. To recall the beauty of being alive, a reminder we are loved.”
Her name, written in lowercase in tribute to bell hooks, reflects that force – a refusal to conform, a commitment to community, a search for liberation both personal and collective.
“Deus Deus” follows a string of releases that have acted as prelude to this new chapter: a reimagining of Lauryn Hill’s "To Zion" performed at Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival, and two remixes of "B.P.E. (Black People Everywhere)" – a standout from the Brazil sessions – by Sango and Hagan.
