Listen: Years & Years - "Take Shelter"
In early 2014, Years & Years announced their arrival with one of those tracks that begs to be replayed again and again. “Real”, with its monstrously moreish chorus, aligned the newcomers with the chart-topping Disclosure thanks to its soulful similarities with the Lawrence brothers’ breakthrough track, “Latch”.
Since then, a ballad-like outing in the shape of “Eyes Shut” and a string of impressive early live outings have catalysed attention surrounding the London trio - Olly Alexander (vocals), Mikey Goldsworthy (bass), Emre Turkmen (synths) - culminating in their signing to the hit-making Polydor.
This new cut continues in the same vein as its predecessors, embracing the trio’s tested recipe for potent pop: Alexander‘s vocal once again takes centre-stage as its seductive qualities soar out above typically tidy electronic production, while a summery reggaeton rhythm adds a funk flavour to the outing.
Stream the instantly infectious “Take Shelter” below; it has everything in place to catapult Years & Years into the limelight where they belong.
