Peluché tease debut EP Utopia Village with ambitious jazz odyssey "Swim"
Peluché are sharing new single "Swim" and detailed upcoming debut EP Utopia Village.
The short-player, the final set of songs to be recorded in Camden's Utopia Village before it becomes the next victim of London's ravenous developers, arrives after a slew of successful singles - including "Ohio", "Sin", and "The Guy With The Gammy Eye".
"Swim" is an ambitious six-minute odyssey that bridges seemingly disparate genres. Peluché move through wisps of psychedelic mist and icy-cool melody, nodding to Cocteau Twins' dreamy atmopsheres, before morphing into a full-blown jazz extravaganza. High-powered bass and brass and woodwind pierce the fug, dragging the jam onto the rooftops of NYC - it begins lush and relaxed but ends with an overwhelming feeling of desolation, with abstract shards of sound jutting out at odd angles. It's not immediately clear what you've been through when "Swim" ends, but you'll be clicking play again and again and again.
Speaking about the release, the band say: "We are very proud of this EP. It’s our first collection of songs, which we have written and self-produced. The first half represents feelings of commitment and attachment; the way that people can feel connected in positive and negative polarities. The second half is about taking a chance and breaking free as musicians."
