In vino veritas they say, but to be completely honest with you I will not have to drink a drop of it to tell you how I feel truthfully about Oceaán’s latest venture, “Veritas”. The truth is, it's simply wonderful.
Disoriented and stuttering its first beats with nonchalance and confidence, the track takes a few seconds to rearrange its aural compass before sequencing into a beautiful, blossoming composition of synths and keys. Layers upon layers of distinctive sounds and quirks create the central bed of sonic flowers around which waspy and bumbling modulations hover with rhythmical magnetism. Oceaán tackles RnB with playful experimentation and extrovert beats, yet maintains the structure and formula that makes this soulful track an unavoidable jam.
Oceaán new EP is out on 17 November via Chess Club Records (UK) / B3SCI (US). He tours in early 2015, so make sure you catch him on one of the following live dates:
