Matilda Mann muses on escapism on her latest sparkling story-telling single "Japan"
Ever the dreamer, London-based singer songwriter Matilda Mann reflects on ostentatious escapes to far-flung corners of the globe on "Japan".
Taken from the Londoner’s forthcoming sophomore EP Because I Wanted You To Know, "Japan" follows in the footsteps of Matilda Mann’s previous efforts, oozing warmth and highlighting the singer's sparkling story-telling ability.
Firmly rooted in Mann's signature warm acoustic origins, it's both wistful and romantic, with enough of a carefree vibe to appeal to the daydreamers amongst us.
Revealing the inspiration behind the track, Matilda explains, "Over lockdown I binge-watched Gossip Girl. It’s basically about very rich teenagers living in NYC and whenever they were heartbroken, they would always fly off to Paris or do something extravagant and I thought, if I was 17 and heartbroken (and rich), I’d fly to Japan to cry and distract myself until I got over them."
Matilda Mann · JapanThe perfect inspiration for dreaming up an imaginary adventure, "Japan" is confirmation of Mann’s sincere song-writing style, placing her securely amongst the likes of the similarly charming Lucy Rose and Billie Marten.
