Lynks drops self-deprecating queercore anthem “Everyone’s Hot (And I’m Not)”
Future superstar of the queer scene Lynks marries tongue-in-cheek lyrics with pumping Europop beats on “Everyone’s Hot (And I’m Not)”.
Ever felt the sore pang of rejection, leading to you feeling inadequate and totally out of place? Lynks has. The producer, singer and performer has made precisely the kind of euphoric synth-pop banger that gets that sorry situation.
“Everyone’s Hot (And I’m Not)” is a rip-roaring, window-smashing, and all-out audacious assault on the senses. Razor-sharp lyrical tidbits (“Everyone’s a model and I’m a librarian / everyone’s a Corgi and I’m an Alsatian”) are paired with a pulsating electronic pop sound that seems custom-built for nightclub backrooms and industrial warehouse raves, with the end result – and accompanying music video – being the closest thing to a party that we’re likely to experience in the next six months.
“On the surface it’s this crazy, dumb, tongue in cheek thing, but underneath all that it’s got a really, really dark side”, explains Lynks. “I wrote it on the bus home after a night out where I got pretty violently rejected by a guy I wrongfully assumed was gay. That’s a very specific feeling that I think only queer people will fully understand.”
“I looked around this room of young, hot, straight people and just felt so completely out of place. They were models, I was a librarian. They were classic Coke, I was diet Pepsi. They were hot, I was not. And bam - I sat on the top deck of the 185 bus and the song pretty much wrote itself.”
“It’s my favourite thing I’ve written so far and so cathartic to put to music,” says Lynks. “I’m beyond happy to finally be unleashing it to the world. Almost a year has passed since and I’m very happy to say that I now definitely feel like a hot, sexy model.”
